(Queens, NY) – A Rikers Island correction officer is in the hospital following a brutal attack that left him with a broken back. It happened Saturday afternoon at the George Motchan Detention Center in Queens.
The correction officer’s union says an inmate punched the officer and knocked him to the ground, after which three other gang-members began kicking him. 
A Ultimately the officer lost consciousness during the assault. A union rep called it one of the worst attacks on record against a correction officer.
