Cruz pleaded to President Trump to take charge and save lives. Duke visited San Juan Friday, saying she was “proud” of the government’s response. Duke said additional supplies and personnel are en route to the island, but admitted that clearly the effort is “not satisfactory.”

(Washington, DC) — President Trump is ready to take healthcare reform into his own hands. A day after the latest Republican attempt to repeal Obamacare failed, Trump told reporters he probably will sign an executive order next week that could affect millions of people. He said the order will allow people to cross state lines to buy health care among many other things. Many Republicans, including Kentucky Senator Rand Paul, have advocated for selling insurance across state lines. Supporters claim it would increase competition and reduce rates. Opponents say it will raise the rates of those most in need of healthcare.

(Louisville, KY) — A federal judge says Kentucky’s abortion law violates doctors’ First Amendment rights. The law would require doctors to conduct ultrasounds and describe the image to a pregnant woman before she can consent to an abortion. U.S. District Judge David Hale ruled Wednesday that the law violates doctors’ free speech rights. The ACLU challenged the law on behalf of a Louisville clinic that is Kentucky’s only abortion provider. In barring the state from enforcing the law, the judge wrote that it appears to inflict psychological harm on abortion patients.

Businessmen talking in conference room(Ithaca, NY) — You might want to think twice before drinking from your office coffee mug. According to NDTV, a new study published in The Journal of Dairy, Food, and Environmental Sanitation noted that 90% of office coffee mugs were coated with germs (90%!) and 20% of those mugs actually had fecal matter on them. They say kitchen sponges that are rarely changed are the source.

The study was first published in the journal “Dairy, Food and Environmental Sanitation” out of New York’s Cornell University. Hundreds of bacterial strains have been identified, including E. coli. Researchers suggest taking your mug home each night and putting it through your dishwasher.

And it gets worse. Apparently, your chance of coming into contact with E. coli actually increases if your mug has been wiped down with the office dishcloth or sponge. In the study, the bacteria wasn’t present at all in cups before they were wiped down, but was on 20% of them afterward. Coliform bacteria was present on 20% of the cups before wiping, and 100% afterward.

Federal Bribery Charges Brought Against Top NCAA Coaches

(SL) – An acting U.S. Attorney in New York is shedding some light on what he calls the dark underbelly of college basketball. Joon H. Kim announced Tuesday at a press conference that federal criminal charges have been brought against ten people, including four top-tier college basketball assistant coaches, managers, financial advisers and representatives of a major international sportswear company, widely reported to be Adidas.

Kim says coaches at some of the nation’s top programs took cash bribes to deliver star athletes to an adviser or agent. He also said employees of the sportswear company funneled cash to the families of college recruits to have them play at schools sponsored by the company.

Court documents show the assistant coaches charged in the corruption scheme are Arizona’s Emanuel Richardson, Auburn’s Chuck Person, Oklahoma State’s Lamont Evans, and USC’s Tony Bland. Kim said the bribes and payouts ranged from 13-thousand-dollars up to 100-thousand. The FBI and U.S. Attorney’s Office have been investigating the criminal influence of money on coaches and NCAA student-athletes since 2015.

Death Toll Rises To 318 In Mexico Earthquake As Two More Hit

(SL) – Mexico has been ravaged  by a string of earthquakes, four in the last two weeks to be exact with two of them registering at 8.1 and 7.1. The latest (called an aftershock) had a magnitude of 6.1

The L.A. Times reports, The U.S. Geological Survey said the new temblor, which hit just before 8 a.m. local time with a magnitude of 6.1, was centered about 325 miles southeast of Mexico City in the state of Oaxaca, the region that took the brunt of the magnitude 8.1 quake on Sept. 7.

Saturday’s quake came as rescue crews continued to search for survivors in the ruins of flattened buildings in Mexico City from Tuesday’s magnitude 7.1 earthquake.

Carlos Valdes, director of the National Center for Disaster Prevention, said rescue efforts were briefly paused because of the new earthquake alert. “But immediately seeing that there was no major earthquake and no affected structures, the work continued immediately,” he said. “The search and rescue of living people — that is what is important.”

Mexico City Mayor Miguel Angel Mancera told Mexican television that rescue attempts will continue, with crews concentrating on eight collapsed buildings around the capital in search of an estimated 30 people who could still be alive amid the rubble. Tens of thousands of workers are involved in the effort, including more than 10,500 army and navy personnel, plus 50,000 city employees, Mancera said.

Workers are also inspecting 3,500 buildings reported around the city for structural damage.
