City Councilwoman Keisha Lance Bottoms Discussing The Importance Of The Municipal Options Sales Tax Campaign

The Municipal Option Sales Tax is a 1-cent tax that applies to most goods purchased in the City of Atlanta. These funds allow visitors and business people who use the City’s water and sewer infrastructure but do not pay City water/sewer bills to help pay for upgrading and maintenance of the infrastructure.

This is NOT a new tax; it is the reauthorization of an existing tax. The Municipal Option Sales Tax vote will be held on Tuesday, March 1, 2016.

Charlotte Guard Kemba Walker Talks Poor Shooting After 87-76 Loss To The Hawks

(SL) – The Hornets just couldn’t get it going against the Atlanta Hawks Sunday. Marvin Williams led all scorers with 16 followed by Jeremy Lin who chipped in 15 but Charlotte was 27 of 81 from the field, shooting just 33.3% and 7-32 from the 3pt line. Can’t shoot like that and expect a victory. Kemba Walker talked about it in the locker room.

Hawks Win Big At The Atlanta Sports Awards

(SL) – The Atlanta Hawks stole the show at this year’s Atlanta Sports Council’s Atlanta Sports Awards.  Paul Millsap was nominated for Athlete of the Year,  Hawks’ Coach Mike Budenholzer was in the Coach of the Year category and the Atlanta Hawks also had a nod for Team of the Year and were successful in winning all three.

After winning Athlete of the Year, Millsap said , “I was shocked. There are so many great athletes in this city.”

Millsap was the leading scorer for the Hawks who won 60 games and reached the Conference Finals in 2015.

“I’m very appreciative of Atlanta,” Budenholzer said.  “I love living here.  I love coaching here”DSC_0022The Coach of the Year and Team of the Year awards included nominees at the professional, collegiate and high school levels.  The council also handed out awards for Collegiate Athlete of the Year and High School Athlete of the Year.   DSC_0003The night concluded with two special presentations, highlighted by former Braves pitcher and Hall-of-Famer John Smoltz accepting the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Hawks Break Losing Streak with Win Over Bulls

(SL) – It was ugly from the 3pt line, but the Hawks were strong enough in other areas to take a victory over the Bulls.  Chicago was without Derrick Rose and Jimmy Butler and Atlanta took full advantage.   IMG_9855Bulls Coach Fred Hoiberg said, “Right from the beginning, they out muscled us,” Hoiberg said. “They got second-chance opportunities pretty much every time down. We’d get an initial stop, then we couldn’t get the ball. Ball movement was not good on the other end.

“I don’t get it. We had three good games, we made a lot of progress, and we took a step back today.”IMG_9783When asked about his team’s turnovers, “We had 21,” Hoiberg said. “And that’s what we’ve talked about for two days is taking care of the basketball. We’d averaged just over 20 against this team, and you just don’t give yourself a chance to win when you have careless turnovers like that. It leads to transition baskets. You’re taking the ball out of the net. I don’t know … too careless.”

The Bulls have struggled against the Hawks all season.IMG_9852Jeff Teague led Atlanta  with 19pts, 9 assists and 2 steals while Al Horford chipped in 18 pts. Paul Millsap struggled a bit hitting only 3 shots out of 12, but was big on the boards with 13 rebounds.IMG_9826At the half, the Hawks were 2 for 20 from the arch but Coach Bud says they were good looks and he wasn’t mad at the attempts. In the end though, Atlanta pulled out a 103-88 victory. It’s a much needed win as the Hawks try to position themselves for some playoff action.

It won’t be easy though. After Sunday’s match against the Hornets, the Hawks will prepare for a long trip out West that includes games against the Lakers, Clippers and the Warriors.

Former NBA Player Delonte West Battling Bipolar Disorder

(SL) -After a few appearances on the streets of Houston, one which included him being barefoot.  Delonte West’s family says despite how it looks he is getting treatment as he battles his Bipolar disorder. Several images and videos have popped up on social media of the onetime CAVS player roaming the streets, dancing wildly and watching kids play basketball.

The Daily Mail reports, another series of videos filmed just two weeks ago show the 32-year old 6ft 3in former NBA ball player pacing the sidelines at an under 12s’ basketball game in Dallas and yelling at the players.

Scorekeeper Marketta Gregory, 27, says she first spotted West drinking what looked like beer in the parking lot before he walked in and took a seat.

‘At first I thought that maybe his son or his nephew was playing,’ she said. ‘But then the coaches on both teams started complaining and asking why drunk people were being let in.

‘Delonte was yelling at both teams and then he got up and walked around and tried to sit on the bench. He told one of the coaches he was his assistant.

‘They told him to sit back down in the bleachers but he continued to holler at the kids. I don’t know if he was on something or had taken too much of his medication but he looked bad.

‘His jacket was torn, he was scruffy, he had on cowboy boots. He wasn’t hurting anyone but it was shocking to see him like that. I hope he gets some help, I really do.

West made 16 million dollars in his career. But all that has changed now as you can tell from images of his abandoned property.

His Troubles Are No Secret

In recent years West has described how he resorted to self-harm and took overdoses of pills as a teenager before finding his calling on the basketball court.

But even after reaching the pinnacle of the sport he would break down in tears after a tough loss and would have to be consoled by teammates, including James.

‘The bus pulled up to escort us to the plane and I just broke down crying,’ he said of one such breakdown during his 2009-10 season in Cleveland in an interview last year with Cleveland.com.

‘I felt like my career was over. I was [expletive] up. I was concerned that my nieces and nephews wouldn’t look at me the same anymore. I let the team go ahead of me. I wasn’t getting on.’

West also made headlines in 2011 when he revealed that he had applied for a job at Home Depot during the NBA lockout.

‘It’s official,’ he wrote in a since-deleted tweet. ‘Pride 2 the side. just filled out application at Home Depot. Lockout aint a game.’

After leaving the NBA in 2012, West had stints with the NBA D-League and in China and Venezuela.

He was waived by the Texas legends in early 2015 after suffering a season-ending injury.

Australian Model Ajak Deng Quits Modeling

(SL) – Her manager Stephen Bucknall said he struggles to book jobs for Deng in Australia, despite having starred overseas for Louis Vuitton, Jean Paul Gaultier and Valentino. She will also feature in 2016 campaigns for Givenchy and Marc Jacobs.

Deng, whose family fled South Sudan in 2005, was raised in Melbourne.
She made her runway debut for Chloé and walked for countless international designers in 2010.
Deng has also appeared in campaigns for the likes of Barneys New York, Gap, Marc Jacobs, Kenzo, and Kate Spade.
She previously discussed racism in the fashion industry. She tweeted in 2014 that she was “kicked out of Balmain for being black,” adding, “I know a lot of black models would rather kiss someone’s ass than being honest but guessed what? I do not gaged [sic] a damn f*ck” before deleting her Twitter account.
Her shock announcement comes just one week after a successful New York Fashion Week schedule, featuring in some of the hottest shows of the season, from Zac Posen to Marc Jacobs.
Oddly enough, she’s going back to the same Continent that wouldn’t book her. I guess, however, it is home.

Do Republicans Detest Immigrants That Much? Cruz Lining Up His Position With Trump After Rejecting Deportation

(SL) – Any logical thinking human being knows that if Donald Trump is elected President, the safety of the United States will quickly be compromised.  He’s made no secret of his plans for Muslims. Trump reiterated his desires Friday night by saying in the Philippines more than a century ago, Gen. John Pershing “took 50 bullets, and he dipped them in pigs’ blood,” and shot 49 Muslim rebels. “The 50th person, he said, ‘You go back to your people, and you tell them what happened.’ And for 25 years, there wasn’t a problem.”

Donald Trump on Friday, February 19th, 2016 in a rally in North Charleston, S.C.

Trump’s recollection of history is inaccurate, but the point is he has no qualms about what he would do with Muslims which subsequently would incite violence and really put a big target on the United States. He’s vowed to ban travel for Muslims to the US and don’t even get this man started about his plans for ISIS, who he would like to flat out bomb!

Trump is a rogue and a percentage of American seems to agree with his bully tactics and ghetto politics. Declaring wishes to punch people in the face, calling other candidates ‘pu*****’ among other attacks on candidates defines the true character of Donald Trump, the man who was also once accused of not allowing blacks to live in his buildings. But now, to no surprise  Texas Senator Ted Cruz is switching out and vowing to kick out immigrants who have overstayed their visas to align himself if Trump and gain some momentum.

Cruz told Bill O’Reilly that he would undoubtedly look for 12 million undocumented people living in America and deport them. It seems that now Cruz has a big beautiful wall on his mind as well. Even though he says, they would all be welcomed back…legally of course.

Zika Virus Possibly Transmitted Sexually In 14 New Cases In The US

(SL) – Health officials at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are investigating 14 possible new cases of sexually transmitted Zika virus – including several cases in pregnant women.

Two of the reported cases have been confirmed in women whose only known risk factor was sexual contact with an ill male partner.

The World Health Organization declared the Zika outbreak in the Americas an international public health emergency, on February 1.

It came amid mounting concerns over a link between the virus and the severe birth defect, microcephaly – where babies are born with smaller than usual heads, and often brain damage.

A vaccine for ZIKA won’t be available for another few years.
