(SL) – One look at First Lady Michelle Obama’s Cobalt blue silk crepe, with cap sleeves, a flared skirt and a neat waist dress and you instantly thought she intently stuck with the patriotic theme of the DNC. But there’s so much more to Michelle’s dress than its color. The dress was made by fourth season Project Runway winner Christian Siriano who has made a name for himself on the New York City Fashion scene. He’s also the designer that stepped up to dress Leslie Jones, the late-40-something six-foot-tall star of the movie remake “Ghostbusters,” after she complained that no designer wanted to dress her for the premiere. Siriano came forward and made a custom off-the-shoulder red gown for her premiere. In reference to the Leslie Jones situation, Siriano said, “I just don’t think anyone should be excluded from having a beautiful dress.”
Happenstance…maybe? But I believe the First Lady was putting some ‘respek’ on Siriano’s name for the professional and sweet Jones gesture. You see, that was only the second time Mrs. Obama wore a Siriano dress. The first time came earlier this month at the funeral for the police officers killed in Dallas. With that being said, The First Lady is known for supporting new and independent American designers especially when the background threads more than just the fabric.
(SL) – “When they go low, we go high.” First Lady Michelle Obama took some quiet jabs at Donald Trump and pointed out the importance of placing nuclear codes and military control in the right hands. While she pointed out Hillary Clinton’s strengths, one couldn’t help but think that maybe one day there will be another Obama in the White House.

She’s Racked up back to back losses since rising to boxing fame, after getting the business from Shevchenko at UFC Chicago.
Holm, 34, was the favorite going in but Shevchenko walked out with the victory making a rebound from losing the UFC championship to Miesha Tate in March out of reach.
All three judges unanimously picked Shevchenko as the clear winner. Holm had losing scores of 49-46 from all of the judges.
However, for Shevchenko it was a nice bounce-back considering her trainer was shot in the abdomen by armed robbers while they ate at a chicken restaurant in Lima, Peru two months ago.

In the third round, Shevchenko got in a few jabs and then caught Holm’s leg on a kick attempt and took her down. And then brutally pounded Holm’s face after another takedown in which she kept Holm on the mat for the rest of the round.
Shevchenko is now in the mix to contend for the women’s bantamweight title at 135 pounds that is currently held by Amanda Nunes, who she lost to in March at UFC 196. Nunes dismantled Tate for the belt at UFC 200.
Nunes may not fight Shevchenko though implying in a tweet that she was not ready. To that, Shevchenko says Nunes is scared.

(SL) – After such a violent death, Alton Sterling looked peaceful as family members and friends said goodbye to the 37-year old who was shot dead by two white police officers who pinned him down outside a convenience store in Baton Rouge where he was selling CDs.
Thousands of people attended the funeral at Southern University to remember the father of five whose slaying sparked a wave of protests across the country. His aunt Sandra, still overwhelmed by his death ten days ago, had to be restrained by two men as she walked past her nephew’s body.
Sterling’s death was captured on cellphone video and circulated widely on the internet. His death, along with another fatal police shooting in Minnesota last week, sparked widespread outrage among many African-Americans over the treatment of blacks by police.
Among the mourners was Claire Carter, who came to Sterling’s visitation inside the basketball arena at Southern University, a historically black college in north Baton Rouge. She, like so many others, said she wanted aggressive policing to end.
Sterling’s encounter with police ‘went too far’ when officers tackled him and used a stun gun on him, she said. Police have said they found a gun in his pocket. But no gun is visible on the video.
Carter said she bought a rhythm and blues CD from Sterling about a year ago and took it out and played it again after his death.
Sterling’s funeral started with a gospel choir singing hymns, as many in the crowd of a couple thousand joined in.
Gary Chambers, a spokesman for the Sterling family and master of ceremonies for the funeral, said at the beginning that the event was intended to be a celebration of Sterling’s life – not an opportunity for demonstrations about his death.
‘If you want to protest please leave now,’ he told the crowd, which included two senior advisers to President Barack Obama.
Sterling was selling CDs outside the store, as he had done for years, when he was killed by police responding to a call of a man threatening someone with a gun.
