(New York, NY-AP) – Eddie Murphy is reviving some of his classic bits from Saturday Night Live. Murphy hosted SNL last night for the first time in over three decades.
The 58-year-old actor and comedian offered updates on several of the iconic characters and skits he made famous on the show in the 1980s. Murphy’s Mister Robinson’s Neighborhood character still lives in the same neighborhood, which has become greatly gentrified.
His Buckwheat character is back, competing in a singing contest dressed up as a corn cob, and Eddie Murphy as Gumby delivered the news on Weekend Update.
(USA) – The U.S. doesn’t have a free trade agreement with the Kingdom of Wakanda, despite what the U.S. Department of Agriculture says.
The fictional African nation, home to Marvel superhero Blank Panther, was included in an online USDA list of nations with U.S. trade deals.
The listing was removed this week after a software engineer called it out on Twitter. A USDA spokesman said the fake country was included by mistake as part of a test.
(Washington, DC) – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says President Trump has been held accountable and insists that “no one is above the law.” Talking with reporters at the Capitol, Pelosi called this week’s impeachment of the President a solemn and necessary action. She said she has not decided who will prosecute the case in a Senate trial and when the articles of impeachment will be formally submitted to the Senate. Pelosi argued that the process guiding a Senate trial should be fair.
Pelosi dismissed questions about critical comments from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. McConnell suggested that House Dems are getting cold feet about sending impeachment articles to the Senate. Pelosi said she doesn’t care what Republicans think.
There are two articles of impeachment: Abuse of Power and Obstruction of Congress.
(Atlanta, GA) – When LeBron James and the Lakers slid through the A to take on the Hawks the MVP didn’t look like he’d been in the league for 17 years but that doesn’t mean he didn’t feel like it. Post game, I asked him about the possibility of him making history with son Bronny by becoming the first father and son to play in the NBA at the same time. Start at 6:04 to see what he had to say!
(Atlanta, GA) – It wasn’t an easy win for the Lakers, but as usual LeBron James was dominant with 32pts, 13rbs and 7assts. His son Bronny has been ballin’ out too.
Post Game, I asked him if he had thought about potentially making history by becoming the first Father and Son to play in the league at the same time?
(Los Angeles, CA) – When Jay Z struck a deal with the NFL to have a hand in urban relations and entertainment, he was called everything in the book. Both music and sports’ fans questioned how he could sign up to do business with a league that was effectively black-balling Colin Kaepernick for taking a knee in protest against racial injustices.
Instead of waiting to see what Jay Z would do with this seat at the table, the criticisms flew left and right until Colin Kaepernick was invited to tryout for the NFL in Atlanta. The narrative changed slightly with fans wondering if Jay Z had anything to do with it or not but with Sean Carter staying mute, no one knew for sure.
Well, sports analyst Stephen A. Smith who has been very vocal about Kap’s approach to that tryout (He switched the location, brought his own receivers, wore a Kunta Kinte shirt and challenged the NFL to man up and stop running in a press conference afterwards) is now explaining why he was so upset with how Colin executed the and blew the opportunity.
Sitting down with the NBA’s Matt Barnes, Smith said part of his disgust was centered around knowing how hard Jay Z worked behind the scenes to get Colin that tryout with the NFL. Check out the clip at 50:53!
(Atlanta, Ga) – Atlanta, GA has the international spotlight this weekend as the #MISSUNIVERSE2019 Pageant takes over the city! Tyler Perry Studios will host the live broadcast on Sunday, Dec. 8th at 7p airing on FOX, but the preliminary round got underway in downtown Atlanta.
Fans from all over the world watched 90 contestants from every corner of the globe compete in both the swimsuit and gown competition each representing her country and displaying her beauty in a unique way.
It’s a phenomenal group of women with some already advanced in their careers, speaking 4 and 5 different languages while others are barely 18 and in college. Everyone has a favorite, but all eyes seem to be on USA – Cheslie Kryst who presumably took the swimsuit round with her very defined six pack, Gazini Ganados – Philippines who looked like a gold statue in her gown, Ako Kamo – Japan and Zozibini Tunzi – South Africa who were both draped in culturally inspired gowns and Maëva Coucke – MISS France.
Minus a few falls and a 20-second sweep break the preliminary round went on without a hitch. The ladies, however, recovered nicely under the support of the crowd.
The Preliminary Round was hosted by the current MISS UNIVERSE Catriona Gray but the main event will see five-time Emmy® Award winner, and one of television’s favorite entertainers, Steve Harvey back once again to host.
Social media personality, model and Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo alongside actress and Miss Teen USA 1998 Vanessa Lachey will appear together as backstage hosts to take viewers behind-the-scenes interacting with the women participating in the competition. Musical guest Ally Brooke performs.
Who will take that $5Million dollar crown? Will the Philippines go back to back or will MISS USA be the true host country favorite?!
(Washington, DC-AP) – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is offended by suggestions that she “hates” President Trump. Pelosi scolded a reporter during a Capitol briefing, saying — “Don’t mess with me when it comes to words like that!” She said she’s a Catholic who doesn’t hate anyone. She also noted that she regularly prays for the President. Pelosi also defended the move toward impeachment, saying the President’s actions have left lawmakers with “no choice.”
The reporter who asked the question was James Rosen, a former Fox News correspondent who now works for the Sinclair Broadcast Group. He said he was referring to comments from some House Republicans, who have said impeachment is being fueled by Democrats’ dislike of the President.
(AP) – The future of hip-hop is looking good and financially stable. Forbes magazine released the 2020 edition of their annual 30 Under 30 list Tuesday, which documents entertainers, athletes and more who’ve solidified themselves as entrepreneurs before the big 3-0.
This year’s edition includes Tyler, The Creator, DaBaby, Lil Nas X, Megan Thee Stallion and Tierra Whack. For his part, Tyler dropped Igor, a critically acclaimed LP that pushed his genre-bending-ways to new limits on its way to a Number One debut on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
Meanwhile, Lil Nas X pretty much conquered the world when his breakout single “Old Town Road” broke the Billboard Hot 100 chart record for most weeks at Number One. All five artists join the likes of Travis Scott, SZA, Young MA, and the Migos who have all been featured on the list in the past.
(Kiev-AP) – President Trump’s personal attorney is back in Ukraine seeking to shift attention off the impeachment inquiry and on to political rivals.
The New York Times reports Rudy Giuliani met with a former Ukrainian prosecutor and is a key figure in the impeachment inquiry in Budapest on Tuesday.
He’s now in Kiev meeting with other former Ukrainian prosecutors.
All three of the former prosecutors have been accused of corruption in the past. The Times says Giuliani is talking to them for a documentary series that will debunk the case for impeachment.
