Atlanta City Councilman Kwanza Hall Presents A Proclamation And Award To OWN TV’s Keith David

(SL) – Atlanta is turning into the Hollywood of the south partly in part because of people like Oprah Winfrey filming their projects in the city; and actors like Keith David taking up residency while working. Greenleaf has become one of the most popular shows on television and Keith David stars as Bishop Greenleaf in the church drama. 18194909_1527832843907103_2328061110637247847_n

Greenleaf is just one of over 150 credits David has under his name. So, it was no surprise when District 2 City Councilman Kwanza Hall wanted to honor the Emmy award winning actor with a proclamation and award from the Mayor’s Office for Film and TV.

He also declared April 30th Keith David Day. The presentation took place during that Arts and Icons Master Event for working and and aspiring actors. Led by Keith David and hosted by Sytonnia Moore, So You Wanna Be An Actor was a 4 hour workshop designed to give actors the foundation of basics and tips to hone their craft and work side by side with a legend.

After the workshop, David surprised the audience with a performance with his Jazz band! I know right…who knew? The man is synonymous with talent. And as expected, it was good…really good! He hopes to take up residency in Las Vegas and once the word gets out about just how good he is..I’m sure he’ll be booked in no time. In the meantime, you can catch him Wednesday nights on OWN playing James Greenleaf.  The mid-season finale airs this week!

Late Push By The Hawks Not Enough To Beat The Cavs

(SL) -The Atlanta Hawks had to face another one of their former teammates Friday night when they hosted the Cleveland Cavaliers and welcomed back their former sharpshooter Kyle Korver. After getting over the shock of being traded and getting adjusted to the Cavs’ offense being traded may have been the best thing to happen to Kyle and a subtle regret for Atlanta.

With Cleveland, all Kyle has to do is shoot. Long gone are the days of running around chasing shots, making it easier for him to do his job. Korver is shooting 50% from the 3-point line and he flexed that muscle against the team he used to drain shots for and helped Lebron James and Kyrie Irving lead Cleveland to a 135-130 win.

The main question for the Hawks…where was the defense? It was almost non-existent in the first half giving up 22 points to Lebron and 23 to Kyrie. Granted the Hawks shot 55% in the first have, but the Cavs were solid with 63%. You can’t make mistakes against a team like the Cavs. At the half, Cleveland led (77-60).
Start of the second half and whether or not the Cavs were trying to make a statement is debatable. However, they’re just that good so it’s easier to surmise that they were just playing their game.
Two quick 3s and the punishment would continue. Emotions were already running high, but when Lebron James gave Kent Bazemore a little elbow to back him up and Baze was called for the foul, Coach Bud went ballistic.

The technical foul would in a sense give the Hawks a late spark and in the 4th qtr they were successful in shutting down the Cavs’ 3-point shooting and opening the door for Tim Hardaway Jr. pick up where they left off. He was 5-9 from the arc with 36 points for the night.
The Hawks, who were down by more than 20 at one point had pulled within a 3 point deficit and the threat of overtime was hanging threateningly over the Cleveland’s head. But the Cavs would hold on and victory was theirs.
Paul Millsap also chipped in 27 for Atlanta. But Kyrie Irving and Lebron James would be the high men of the night with 43 and 38 respectively. Great effort but no cigar. Next up the Cavs meet another former teammate, Jeff Teague, when they host Indiana on Sunday.

{Video} Kent Bazemore And The Hawks Fight Back From a 20 Point Deficit But Not Enough To Outplay Deep Clippers Team

It look liked a guaranteed win considering Blake Griffin and Chris Paul were out. But Atlanta struggled out the gate against a Clippers Team that’s loaded with shooters. The Hawks at one point were down by 20 but fought back and dropped their deficit to 9 at one point. It was a battle that they would eventually lose 115-105. Post Game Guard Kent Bazemore who led Atlanta with 25 points talks about being outplayed, not capitalizing on 2nd chance points and other disconnects that kept them from the W.

Kyle Korver Lights Up The Celtics Helps Move Hawks To 2-0 Series Lead

(SL) – When Kyle Korver hit the court Tuesday night you could tell he was in a zone. He looked intense  and although he was probably walking at a normal pace as he made his way through the line, the  ferocious look he had in his eyes made it look as if he was walking in slow motion.

Korver was indeed about to make a movie. Out the gate the 3 point king was draining threes and forcing the Celtics to reevaluate any defensive measure they thought they could angle. Korver had 17 pts, 7 rebounds and shot 5-7 from the arc helping the Hawks take game 2 in the NBA playoffs 89-72. Yes, Korver had the same number of 3 pointers as the entire Celtics team. Korver also had 1 BS to add to a franchise record 15 blocks for the Hawks.

Post Game I asked the 3pt king about his shooting and the intensity he carried for the night:

Celtics Coach Brad Stevens was asked if they were slightly misled by Korver’s 2 pts in game 1 and he quickly responded with, “No.” Stevens said that Korver is the type of player that’s a part of Boston’s daily conversation. He said there were no excuses for what happened. Atlanta dominated the game and that’s it.

Part I

Coach Brad Stevens Part II

The Celtics were led by Isaiah Thomas who scored 16 points. Boston was held to just 72 points for the game and shot poorly from the 3 pt line (5-28). They shot just 32 % from the field.
