Human Trafficking: Atlanta Mom Buys Her Missing Teenager After Seeing Her Advertised On A Backpage Ad For Sex

(SL) – The sex trafficking problem rears its ugly head daily in Atlanta, GA. Kubiiki Pride is sharing her story through a documentary titled “I am Jane Doe” that was released on Netflix early this year.

Kubiiki’s daughter (called MA) sneaked out of the house one night to go to an end of the school year party and quickly found herself in trouble. The 13-year old left with a woman who she thought was going to take her home and ended up being kidnapped by the female trafficker.

Gone without a trace, after 270 days, Pride started looking online and said she was scrolling through Backpage.com when she came across online advertisement offering sex with her her daughter.

It was the escorts section of Backpage.com

According to the FBI, the average age that a girl is first recruited into prostitution or sex trafficking in the U.S. is 11-14 years-old.

The most recent numbers show sex trafficking in Georgia generated nearly $300 million a year.

The Daily Mail reports, something about the stars and hearts caught her attention and she clicked it to find explicit photos of her daughter wearing only underwear and posing provocatively.

“I called and asked to purchase the services myself,” she said.  When her daughter was returned to her, she said she was addicted to drugs and had been horribly abused.

‘My daughter was stabbed and burned, her head shaved, and she was beaten,’ she said. She ran away two more times, both times being returned to her mother.

‘I said why are you running away?’ Pride said in the documentary while choking back tears. ‘And she said, “Well mom I have to go and get these pills.”‘

The woman who trafficked MA was caught and sentenced to five years in prison in 2010, but the advertisement featuring explicit photos of the teen remained online.

‘Once I told her about all the pain and suffering I went through and that I wanted revenge, she also did,’ MA said in the documentary.

Keith Tharpe Set To Be Executed Later This Month As It’s Revealed Juror Who Used The N-Word Voted For Death Because He’s Black

(SL) – According to one of the jurors assigned to Keith Tharpe’s case, he’s a ‘n…..’. And after serving 26 years on death row, Tharpe’s attorney is hoping that racial bias will save his client’s life.

It was a grisly crime indeed. Keith Leroy Tharpe, now 59, was sentenced to death in 1991 just three months after he allegedly murdered his sister-in-law (Jacqueline Freeman) and kidnapped and raped his estranged wife.

11 Alive reports,  according to court documents, Tharpe repeatedly threatened his wife and her family after she left him. One September morning, as Freeman and Tharpe’s wife were on their way to work, the 59-year-old used his car to force his wife’s off the road. It was there he got out of the car and, armed with a shotgun, forced Freeman to the back of the vehicle where he shot her twice.

After shooting the 29-year-old and rolling her body into a ditch, he kidnapped and raped his estranged wife.

During the sentencing phase of the trial, a Jones County jury voted unanimously for the death penalty.

After several petitions from Tharpe, the Department of Corrections Commissioner Gregory Dozier finally set the execution date for Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. at the Jackson County Prison

But now,  word that  during an interview, a juror told attorneys that he believes black people can be divided into two categories — “good black folks” and “n—–s,” could reverse the ruling.

The juror, reportedly, told attorneys he thought of Freeman’s family as “nice black folks” and said if her family “had been the type Tharpe is, then picking between life or death for Tharpe wouldn’t have mattered as much,” according to the motion.

The juror claims that he voted for the death penalty based only on the evidence, but Tharpe’s attorney believes his views on race were tied to his decision.

“Death sentences cannot be based on racial bias on even the part of one juror,” Kammer said. “It really undermines the appearance of and reality of fairness in death sentencing.”

Tharpe’s attorney, Brian Kammer, is asking a judge to take another look at Tharpe’s case.

If executed, Tharpe will be the 48th inmate put to death by lethal injection in Georgia.

NBA Star Derrick Rose Hopes To Clear Name As $21 Million Civil Rape Trial Gets Underway

(SL) – I’m sure at this point NBA star Derrick Rose is wishing he’d pass on a night out that involved an old girlfriend and two friends. A night of risky sex that resulted in rape accusations and a now  $21 million lawsuit has put a blemish on the respected reputation of the former Chicago Bulls baller, but  before making his debut with the New York Knicks in Houston, Rose said he’s welcoming the chance to clear his name.

“I wanted to take it to court because I didn’t want to settle,’ Rose said on Tuesday, which was also his 28th birthday. ‘I don’t feel like I did anything wrong. If I go up there and just tell my side of the story, I think I’ll be alright.”1-1G61DdlmJo39E7jkyMbI8g.jpegRose planned to leave after the game to attend the trial in Los Angeles, where jury selection began earlier on Tuesday, though no jurors have been seated. He’s expected to be in court by Thursday along with his two co-defendants. The three are unhappy with potential jurors as only two of the 50 prospective jurors were African Americans. All three defendants are black.  Rose’s lawyer noted that 15 of the first 27 possible jurors were Hispanic, the ethnicity of the woman.

The woman, whose identity will be revealed when the trial starts, initiated the lawsuit after claims that Rose and two friends entered her apartment and had sex with her without her consent after she passed out following a night of drinking.
