Pulse Nightclub Shooting Survivors Suing Orlando Police Department

(Orlando, FL) – Survivors of the Pulse nightclub shooting are suing the Orlando Police Department. According to the “Orlando Sentinel,” relatives of nine of the 49 people killed in the shooting and more than two dozen survivors claim officers violated the victims’ civil rights by not entering the nightclub right away to confront the gunman.

Police did not enter the building for six minutes after firing the first shots at the gunman. In that time, police estimate the gunman fired 200 rounds. City and police officials released a statement Thursday saying they have not yet been served with the federal lawsuit and couldn’t comment on the allegations.

Defense Expected To Rest Today After Latest Motion At Pulse Trial Rejected

(Orlando, FL) –The trial of the Pulse gunman’s widow continues today after a defense motion for a mistrial or dismissal of the case was rejected. Attorneys for Noor Salman contended that the prosecution failed to reveal key information about the gunman’s father, including the facts that he had been an FBI informant and was under investigation for money transfers to Turkey and Afghanistan.

But U.S. District Judge Paul Byron ruled that the trial is not about Seddique Mateen, it’s about Noor Salman. She is charged with obstruction of justice and aiding and abetting Omar Mateen’s massacre at the Orlando nightclub that left 49 people dead. The defense is expected to rest today with closing arguments taking place tomorrow before the case goes to the jury.

Salman Trial Continues, Jurors See Graphic Video

(Orlando, FL)  –  The trial of Noor Salman, the widow of the shooter who killed 49 people at Pulse nightclub, continues in Florida today.  Prosecutors are looking to prove Salman knew about Omar Mateen’s plans, and helped him prepare for the shooting.  On Thursday, jurors watched graphic video of the shooting recorded by police body cameras and the nightclub’s surveillance system.  Earlier this week, an FBI agent testified that Salman told him her husband did not hate members of the LGBT community, before the agent brought the matter up.  A Fort Pierce Police lieutenant added that Salman mentioned her husband’s guns before being asked about them.
Salman is reported to have wept while the graphic footage played in the courtroom. Outside, Salman’s cousin Susan Adeih told reporters she hoped Omar would “burn in hell.”  Salman pled not guilty to charges of aiding and supporting a foreign terrorist organization.  If convicted, she could face life in prison.

How Many More Lives Must We Lose?Florida House Votes Down Motion To Consider Assault Weapon Ban

(Tallahassee, FL) – The Florida state House is rejecting a measure to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. The bill had not been heard in a committee and would’ve required a two-thirds majority vote to go directly to the House floor.assaultweapon_112717gettyThe measure would’ve banned the sale and possession of guns like the AR-15 that was used in last week’s high school shooting, in which 17 people were killed.

Some students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High in Parkland were in the gallery as the motion to move the bill forward was voted down.

In the past 4 months over a hundred people have been killed in the United States with AR-15s:

  • Nov. 5, 2017: Devin Kelley, 26, used an AR-15 style Ruger rifle to kill 26 people at a church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, before he was killed.
  • Feb. 14, 2018: Police say Nikolas Cruz, 19, used an AR-15-style rifle to kill at least 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla.

The shooting broke out on the final night of the three-day Route 91 Harvest festival, a sold-out event attended by 22,000 and featuring top acts such as Eric Church, Sam Hunt and Jason Aldean.

Police say the shooter,  a resident of nearby Mesquite, Nevada, unloaded on the festival  at the Las Vegas Village, from a room across the street in the Mandalay Bay Hotel at 10:08 pm. At this point, authorities say there is no connection to international terrorists.

Investigators are currently raiding Paddock’s $400,000 home in a retirement community in Mesquite, which he shared with a woman named Marilou Danley who is currently out of the country.  Paddock reportedly used her credit cards over the last few days as he had been in Vegas since Sept. 28th.

Some reports state that Paddock was going through a divorce at the time. Paddock’s brother Eric described Marilou as his brother’s girlfriend whom he was living with.

Investigations are still ongoing and police have not yet determined a motive. Paddock has no arrest record.

Authorities are asking for blood donations in the area.
