(Washington, DC-AP) — Domestic violence incidents from years ago are coming to light as Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan leaves the Pentagon.
Shanahan has pulled his name from consideration for a confirmed appointment as defense chief. The Washington Post reports Shanahan’s now ex-wife was arrested several years ago for allegedly punching him the face and trying to set his clothes on fire.
In another incident, Shanahan’s son was arrested after allegedly hitting his mother with a baseball bat. Army Secretary Mark Esper will be the new acting secretary of defense.
