Tropical Disturbance Becomes Tropical Storm Barry

(New Orleans, LA-AP) — The storm system churning in the Gulf of Mexico is now Tropical Storm Barry. According to the National Weather Service, the storm has maximum sustained winds of 40 miles-per-hour and could possibly become Hurricane Barry by this weekend.

Barry is located about 95 miles south-southeast of the mouth of the Mississippi River and tracking models show it moving towards Louisiana. Dangerous storm surge, heavy rains and wind conditions are expected across much of the north-central Gulf Coast.

Watches and Warnings are in place along the Gulf Coast.
