On The Shop: Lonzo Ball Opens Up About Family Friend Betrayal And Everyone’s Shocked About Magic Johnson’s Exit

(Los Angeles, CA) – LeBron James is bringing some real barber shop talk on his HBO show’ The Shop’.  Most recently he had Lakers’ PG Lonzo Ball on.  Ball has been mostly quiet about the inner turmoil his family’s business is currently going through.
Longtime family friend and business associate Alan Foster is accused of stealing close to $2 million dollars from the Big Baller Brand and Lonzo Ball, something Lonzo says hurt him to the core. What’s even more disturbing is Lonzo’s mother Tina always managed the money but after she had a stroke, Foster stepped up to take care of the family finances.
Ball said covering up the triple Bs on his arm is part of the healing process.  He says every time he looked at it he thought of Foster.
Also on ‘The Shop’, LeBron James like most of us said he was stunned by Magic Johnson’s resignation from the Lakers last month. James made his first public comments about Johnson surprisingly stepping down as president of basketball operations and said he was given no warning or heads-up on the decision.
Other reports say Magic resigned after being mistakenly CCd on an email that discuss his performance in a negative way.

Fall Of A Dynasty: Greed Could Mean The End For Big Baller Brand

(Los Angeles, CA) –  The Bible says in 1 Timothy 6:10, For the love of money is the root of all evil. And it looks like money could end up being the downfall of the Big Baller Brand.
Love him or hate him, LaVar Ball  with his valiant and often boisterous personality has positioned his three sons Lonzo, LiAngelo and LaMelo to be a 1,2,3 punch dynasty in the NBA. He’s groomed his boys to be disciplined in life and the game of basketball and as they transform to current and future NBA stars, the marketing almost works itself.
Who wouldn’t be interested in three brothers, at one point, lined up to dominate High School, College and NBA basketball all at the same time. Fans are banking on decades of the Ball brothers showing out, especially the youngest one. It made perfect financial sense to turn the Ball Brand into a real business.
That’s what family friend Alan Foster said when he saw the attention and publicity surrounding LaVar’s sons and LaVar as he stirred up controversy and interest (often negative) pretty much everywhere he went.  Some say that controversy is what’s keeping middle son LiAngelo out of the league right now while others, from the beginning, understood the father of three’s vision and the mechanics of his abrasive ways.
I’ll admit.  For the longest, I just wanted pops to be quiet. I was one that was skeptical until I took the time to watch the family’s reality show on Facebook Watch, “Ball in The Family”.
ball-family
What I saw was a well orchestrated and organized household designed to turn LaVar Ball and Tina Ball’s sons, and any of their friends who were willing to put in the work, into bonafide basketball beasts and respectable young men. LaVar ball doesn’t drink, doesn’t smoke and detests tattoos (until his son Gelo got not one, but a few and Lonzo soon followed). And then there’s the dynamic between him and his wife and his commitment to her after she suffered a stroke.  It’s safe to say that Tina Ball brings out LaVar’s soft side. Yes, he has one.
With help from both LaVar and Tina’s parents along with his brothers, there’s a strong family support system and everyone plays his or her role in the family business.  Alan Foster, whose son befriended Lonzo in middle school, pitched an idea to LaVar that would turn the creation of professional endorsement deals and signature shoes for an NBA rookie on its head.  Forget NIKE, forget Adidas, Rebook and any other athletic brand. Let’s do our own.  The Big Baller Brand. Subsequently, overpriced shoes, hats, t-shirts and hoodies with triple BBBs emblazoned on them became the gear to have.
They even have a girl’s line.
Ball in The Family started airing on Facebook Watch and the dynasty had officially begun.
At the start of his rookie season, Lonzo Ball hit the court for the Los Angeles Lakers in his own signature shoe created by the Big Baller Brand. Major pop-up shops across the world soon followed and the JBA league which was a direct marketing tool for the Triple BBBs took off as well. Minus Lonzo suffering from continuous ankle problems (which the Lakers reportedly think are caused by his triple BBBs shoes) business was booming.
Melo Ball's 16th Birthday
Alan Foster was leading the way. He served as LaVar’s business partner, advisor and was purported to be the one who organized LaMelo’s move to SPIRE Institute in Ohio and kept close contact with LiAngelo’s agent to keep LaVar abreast on what moves were possible in advance for his middle son. LaVar trusted him blindly to not only manage the family business but some of Lonzo’s personal business as well. Afterall, Foster is a Co-Owner of BBB so it seemed like a win/win.
Alan held a near 17% stake in the company while Lonzo was the majority holder with over 51% percent leaving just over 30% presumably for LaVar, Melo and Gelo to split. I’m pretty sure Lonzo initially funded the Big Baller Brand.  He had just signed a 3-year 22 million dollar deal with the Lakers when BBB started.

There was only one instance that appeared to be a red flag but with new startups some bumps in the road are expected.  On one episode of Ball In The Family a number of JBA players hadn’t been paid. Deposits were quickly made, but it made you question how money was being transferred for both payments and purchases.  It’s no secret that the other triple BBB – The Better Business Bureau isn’t too fond of the Big Baller Brand.  There has been a number of complaints from consumers. But again, with startups you expect a few wrinkles.
But what you don’t expect is to have the Co-Owner and friend of the family embezzle $1.5 million dollars in the first year and a half of the company’s existence and Lonzo Ball’s professional career.  However, when the Co-Owner is a convicted fraudster……it’s more than plausible. In fact financial misdeeds are not new to Foster.
According to federal records, in 2002, he was sentenced to more than seven years in prison after pleading guilty to one count of mail fraud and two counts of money laundering as part of a scheme that defrauded 70 investors of $4 million. Foster was also ordered to pay $3.7 million in restitution to victims.
Lonzo told ESPN that he believes, “Alan Foster used his access to my business and personal finances to enrich himself. As a result, I have decided to sever all ties with Alan, effective immediately.”
Lonzo also scrubbed all visuals of the Big Baller Brand and logo including the triple BBBs tattoo that he had on his forearm.  It’s been replaced by a pair of dice showing allegiance to his two younger brothers with the numbers 1,2,3.
All three of the Ball brothers have stopped following the Big Baller Brand on social media as well. And ..I’m sure that won’t be the end of it.

Lakers To Work Out Lonzo Ball’s Brother LiAngelo

(Los Angeles, CA) – It looks like we all might owe Lavar Ball an apology for thinking he was just some crazy sports’ dad with way too much energy lol. That drive, dedication and training looks to be falling right into the line of his plan as his middle son LiAngelo Ball prepares to show the Lakers what he has up close.
Yes…you read that right. The Los Angeles Lakers are doing their due diligence on the younger brother of point guard Lonzo Ball. LiAngelo Ball will work out for the team on Tuesday along with five other players. I, however, am not surprised.  I spent the weekend binge watching ‘Ball In The Family’ to, most importantly, put my pre-judgments and presumptions aside. And what I saw was a father who has trained up all three of his boys to be world class athletes; with LaMelo expected to be the most successful of the three because, of course, he’s been playing up his whole life.  He has no choice but to.

A family brand that comes along with an international fan base and signature shoes for all three of LaVar’s sons, LiAngelo’s future was laid out for him since the day he took his first steps. All he has to do is perform.
LiAngelo attended UCLA for a short time this past season, but withdrew from the school before playing a game after getting caught shoplifting a pair of glasses in China on a team trip. What teenager hasn’t made a mistake?  Anyone who his counting this kid out, will surely be eating his stats if politics don’t keep him at bay.
Let’s be honest.  He can play. At 6’5, the wing player has tremendous jumping ability, power, speed and accuracy with a jumper so pretty it would make Wesley Snipes jealous in ‘White Men Can’t Jump’. Post UCLA, he played professionally for one season in Lithuania before declaring himself eligible for the draft.  The one thing I love about this kid is that he knows that the odds are against him and uses that for fuel to get his dream accomplished. This is a family business.  With ice water in his veins, he can’t wait to prove the naysayers wrong.
Simply put, he’s built Ball tough. And much love to his mom, Tina! She is the epitome of strength. The draft is June 21st.

Lakers’ Lonzo Charges $199 For Autographs

(Industry, CA) – Lakers rookie Lonzo Ball is charging 199 dollars each for his autographs. About 300 people reportedly showed up at a Los Angeles area Mall Saturday for his first official signing event.0217_spo_sgt-l-lonzo-0218-kb20-1The two Benjamins got fans an autograph, but no personalized messages. Ball signed shoes, pictures, balls and other trinkets at the mall’s Sports Authentics store for about two hours.

Some observers took to social media to berate Ball for charging such a high price, considering he is averaging only ten points a game.

Liangelo Ball On ‘Hotel Arrest’ After Shoplifting In China, Could Face 3-10 Years In Prison

(SL) – Well mark this under stupid.  The kid has a brother that plays for the Los Angeles Lakers. He himself is just a couple of years removed from making millions in the NBA, but you’re shoplifting in China???

Ball is a UCLA freshman from Chino Hills, California. The other two players reportedly accused are freshmen Cody Riley, of Kansas City, Kansas, and Jalen Hill, of Corona, California.

1107-liangelo-ball-jalen-hill-cody-riley-getty-9“We are aware of a situation involving UCLA student-athletes in Hangzhou, China,” UCLA said in a statement. “The University is cooperating fully with local authorities on this matter.”

AOL reports, if standard practices are applied, the three, under suspicion of shoplifting could face between three and 10 years in prison if convicted. The sentencing guidelines could shift depending on the amount that the Chinese could prove was allegedly stolen.

Authorities believe the players shoplifted from a Louis Vuitton store near the UCLA team hotel outside of Shanghai. The Bruins are in China to play Georgia Tech on Saturday in the season opener. The players were arrested Tuesday after local law enforcement came to the team hotel and questioned both UCLA and Georgia Tech players before taking the three away.

Robbing The Culture, Basic Baller Brand Wants To Charge Kids Big Baller Bucks For Knockoff Sneakers

(SL) – Let’s be clear, what LaVar Ball is trying to do is plausible and he should believe that his kids are the best. There’s a way to go about it though and he seems to be lacking tact and common sense. The fact that he has turned off every major retailer who wanted to sign his oldest son should be a big enough hint that he’s doing too much. However, the signs are wafting over him. If the father of 3 is going for shock value, it’s not working.

2017-05-0510-38-30Nike passed, Adidas passed, Under Armour passed and everyone else. A Billion dollar merchandising deal for all 3 of his sons, two of which are still in high school? Is he high? And then he comes back, releases a line of shoes for Lonzo called the ZO2 and places a $495 price tag on it. $995 if you want them autographed. We see what you did there LaVar, but we’re not impressed.

Now before we really ask what’s he smoking, let’s see the shoe and see if it’s worth it. Oh, I forgot to mention that you can get the sliders for $220. But the biggest catch is, reportedly if you order the shoe, you can’t even get them until November. Maybe LaVar should secure a deal with a manufacturer and distributor before he starts selling shoes. Not to mention, his son hasn’t even gotten drafted yet and recent comments have probably turned off quite a few teams.

031417-cbk-lavarlonzoball-pi.vresize.1200.630.high.0Once believed to be a top 3 draft pick, after Lonzo’s pops insulted Lebron James’ kids, and claimed his son was better than Stephen Curry, many believe his stock has decreased. Let’s be blunt. Nobody likes a loud mouth jerk. He claims that he himself beat Michael Jordan. Really? Okay.  Can you imagine LaVar brokering his son’s NBA contract. 1 year deal for $195 million because of course he likes 3 different digits.

On Friday, LaVar was asked on “The Dan Le Batard Show” why he decided to charge $495 for the shoes. His response, “I figured that’s what the shoe was worth,” Ball told Le Batard. “I liked the way it sounds. You see, when you are your own owner, you can come up with any price you want.”

la-sp-lonzo-ball-shoes-20170504Ball said he wasn’t in competition with Nike, Adidas, and Under Armour and that they were battling below Big Baller Brand. “Let Nike and Adidas and Under Armour — they battling below me,” Ball said. “They’ll go ahead and put all their stuff in Foot Locker. I’m better than them. I’m a step above.”

As for why the shoe was specifically priced at $495 and not, say, $500, Ball again acted like the question was a bit absurd. “Five hundred dollars?! Four-ninety-five sounds better,” Ball said. “I like three different digits.”

Ball further defended the shoe’s price by saying it was “symbolic” — Lonzo is the first basketball player to have a brand before entering the NBA. He also said there was some value in knowing that his son “designed all of it” and that other shoe companies don’t allow rookies to do that.

There’s only one problem with that. The shoe is being criticized for looking a lot like the Kobe 11s and the logo appears to be ripped from another source. See below.

Screen-Shot-2017-05-05-at-8_19_11-AM

A whole lot of talk, not enough originality or profit margin sensibility. Maybe LaVar never took Economics, but supply and demand is a real thing. And right now…your son isn’t there yet. Even the greats that have highly priced shoes are deemed collectors’ items. For example, the Kobe 11s cost $500 because it’s the last shoe Kobe wore in the NBA. Lebron James’ first shoe he wore in his first NBA game will cost you a pretty penny too.

The shoe Blake Griffin wore when he was jumping over cars in the NBA All-star contest will hit your pockets even harder. But again, if you’re a collector..collect. Lonzo Ball may be an outstanding athlete, depending on who you ask, but he hasn’t touched the big leagues yet.

The most disturbing piece in this ridiculous tale of a father thinking his balls are bigger than they are, is the insult levied at kids that can’t afford the shoe. Good thing a real baller like Shaq stepped in to acknowledge the foul verbal spew.

Wale didn’t appreciate it either.

Ball’s youngest son attempted to support his dad. But kid this is way more than a father believing in his sons.

And as for LaMelo or LiAngelo wearing the BBB shoes when they hit UCLA’s court, forget about it. It’s not happening. UCLA has an almost $300 million dollar sponsorship deal with Under Armour.  Group consensus…LaVar Ball should humble himself. Above everything, there are reports that Balls’s wife is suffering from a recent stroke.

tina-ball-basketballSpeculation alleges he refuses to let his sons see her in that condition out of fear that they might get distracted. I personally, don’t think the man is that out of touch, but who knows. Blessings to his wife for sure, if that is the case.
