Unprofessional And Insensitive Tweet Forces Mary Bono To Leave USA Gymnastics Position After Just Four Days

(Washington, DC) – This is what happens when your star athletes stand together against something.  Just four days after Congresswoman Mary Bono announced that she would be taking over as interim president for USA gymnastics, she is now announcing that she is resigning.

mary-bono-deleted-tweet-nike-simone-bilesThe departure comes after a tweet from Bono about Nike garnered strong disapproval from gymnastics’ superstars Simone Biles and Aly Raisman.

Olympic champion Simone Biles’ reaction to a tweet in which Bono expressed that she was happy she had a black sharpie in her bag to mark out the Nike logo on her shoes after the athletic wear and shoe company made Colin Kaepernick its spokesperson, summoned an immediate response from those in charge and it looks like they agreed with Simone.

Simone, who is also a Larry Nassar survivor, reacted writing “mouth drop (asterisk) don’t worry, it’s not like we needed a smarter usa gymnastics president or any sponsors or anything.”
Biles, who will compete in the world championships next week in Qatar, is sponsored by Nike.

On Tueday night, Aly Raisman posted, “The stakes are high in our sport right now, (and) it’s essential new leadership be disconnected from the influences that allowed these terrible things to happen.”  Bono was also under criticism for being connected to the law firm that has supported the USA gymnastics who gymnasts say continues to act tone deaf to what really happened with Larry Nassar. More than 200 women have come forward in the past two years with allegations of sexual abuse against the former team doctor.
Nassar is currently serving a 40 to 175 year sentence for his crimes. Bono’s support of the law firm and now her attack on Nike seem to be enough for USA Gymnastics to cut ties before they really began. Be careful with what you tweet.

Parent Of Nassar Victim Asks Judge For Five Minutes Alone With Disgraced Physician….Okay.. Just Give Me One

(Eaton County, MI) – The father of three victims of Larry Nassar attempted to attack the disgraced former sports doctor in a Michigan courtroom. After two of his daughters spoke at the third and final sentencing hearing for Nassar, Randall Margraves asked the presiding judge for time in a locked room with the former Michigan State and USA Gymnastics physician.

When the judge denied those requests, Margraves used profanity towards Nassar, then rushed at him though was quickly blocked by an attorney and tackled by sheriff’s deputies. Judge Janice Cunningham said there was “no way” she would punish Margraves, who apologized to the court.

Victim Tells Nassar, “Little Girls Don’t Stay Little Forever”

(SL) – One of the dozens of victims expected to testify at the sentencing hearing of disgraced former Michigan sports doctor Larry Nassar described the sexual abuse Nassar inflicted on her as a child and warned him that ”little girls don’t stay little forever.”

Kyle Stephens was the first of nearly 100 women and girls who will be allowed to speak or will have their statements read by others during the four-day hearing in Lansing, Michigan. ”I testified to let the world know that you are a repulsive liar,” Stephens said to the 54-year-old Nassar, who bowed his head with his eyes closed as she and others spoke.
She said Nassar repeatedly abused her from age 6 until age 12 during family visits to his home. Another statement came from Donna Markham, who told of how her daughter Chelsey committed suicide in 2009, years after Nassar sexually abused her during a medical examination.

In related news, the U.S. Olympic gymnastics team says it will not punish gymnast McKayla Maroney for talking about alleged sexual abuse. USA Gymnastics said Tuesday it will not pursue any money from Maroney if she speaks publicly about alleged abuse from former team doctor Larry Nassar. Maroney signed a nondisclosure agreement in December 2016 agreeing to stay quiet about the abuse as part of a one-point-25-million-dollar settlement with USA Gymnastics.
Maroney filed a lawsuit last month claiming USA Gymnastics tried to prevent her from publicly accusing Nassar of sexual abuse in order to allow him to leave quietly. Nassar is being sentenced this week on seven counts of sexual assault, and could get life in prison.

Simon Biles Breaks Silence Hits #MeToo

(SL) – Simone Biles is the latest gymnast to come out and say she was sexually abused by imprisoned former U.S. gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar.
Biles, who won four gold medals and five medals overall at the 2016 Olympics, said on Twitter that she is one of”many survivors” to be abused by Nassar, who also worked at Michigan State. Biles joins fellow gymnasts Aly Raisman, Gabby Douglas and McKayla Maroney to come out against Nassar.

The revelation came in a long statement on her social media accounts — one day before a week long sentencing hearing where Nassar will hear from nearly 100 victims
“Most of you know me as a happy, giggly and energetic girl. But lately…I’ve felt a bit broken and the more I try to shut off the voice in my head the louder it screams,” Biles wrote in a #metoo post. “I am not afraid to tell my story anymore. I too am one of the many survivors that was sexually abused by Larry Nassar,” she continued. “For too long I have asked myself, ‘Was I too naive? Was it my fault?’ I now know the answers to those questions. No. No, it was not my fault. No, I will not and should not carry the guilt that belongs to Larry Nassar, USAG [USA Gymnastics], and others.”
USA Gymnastics and Michigan University are accused of giving Nassar unfettered access to vulnerable girls and women, ignoring signs or complaints of sexual misconduct, and trying to silence victims.

USA Gymnastics Sports Doctor Pleads Guilty To Sex Assault

(SL) – A former USA Gymnastics sports doctor is pleading guilty to multiple charges of sexual assault.  In a Michigan courtroom yesterday, Doctor Larry Nassar said he sexually assaulted several young athletes, including victims under the age of 13.
Other charges were dismissed or reduced as part of a plea agreement. Nassar made a short statement apologizing and saying he was hopeful the community could move forward.
“For all those involved, I’m so horribly sorry that this was like a match that turned into a forest fire out of control,” he said. “I have no animosity toward anyone. I just want healing. … We need to move forward in a sense of growth and healing and I pray (for) that.”
Olympic gymnasts Gabby Douglas, Aly Raisman and McKayla Maroney all accuse Nassar of assault while working for USA Gymnastics.
All 125 victims who reported assaults to Michigan State Police will be allowed to give victim impact statements at Nassar’s sentencing in January. He faces at least 25 to 40 years in prison.
Nassar pleaded guilty to child pornography charges in July.
