Late Push By The Hawks Not Enough To Beat The Cavs

(SL) -The Atlanta Hawks had to face another one of their former teammates Friday night when they hosted the Cleveland Cavaliers and welcomed back their former sharpshooter Kyle Korver. After getting over the shock of being traded and getting adjusted to the Cavs’ offense being traded may have been the best thing to happen to Kyle and a subtle regret for Atlanta.

With Cleveland, all Kyle has to do is shoot. Long gone are the days of running around chasing shots, making it easier for him to do his job. Korver is shooting 50% from the 3-point line and he flexed that muscle against the team he used to drain shots for and helped Lebron James and Kyrie Irving lead Cleveland to a 135-130 win.

The main question for the Hawks…where was the defense? It was almost non-existent in the first half giving up 22 points to Lebron and 23 to Kyrie. Granted the Hawks shot 55% in the first have, but the Cavs were solid with 63%. You can’t make mistakes against a team like the Cavs. At the half, Cleveland led (77-60).
Start of the second half and whether or not the Cavs were trying to make a statement is debatable. However, they’re just that good so it’s easier to surmise that they were just playing their game.
Two quick 3s and the punishment would continue. Emotions were already running high, but when Lebron James gave Kent Bazemore a little elbow to back him up and Baze was called for the foul, Coach Bud went ballistic.

The technical foul would in a sense give the Hawks a late spark and in the 4th qtr they were successful in shutting down the Cavs’ 3-point shooting and opening the door for Tim Hardaway Jr. pick up where they left off. He was 5-9 from the arc with 36 points for the night.
The Hawks, who were down by more than 20 at one point had pulled within a 3 point deficit and the threat of overtime was hanging threateningly over the Cleveland’s head. But the Cavs would hold on and victory was theirs.
Paul Millsap also chipped in 27 for Atlanta. But Kyrie Irving and Lebron James would be the high men of the night with 43 and 38 respectively. Great effort but no cigar. Next up the Cavs meet another former teammate, Jeff Teague, when they host Indiana on Sunday.

No Whole In The Wall Showers And Twin Beds For USA Basketball Team, Check Out The Cruise Liner Kyrie, Melo And The Boys Will Call Home While In Rio

(SL) – If you thought the ZIKA virus was frightening, the living conditions in the Athletes’ Village will make you worry about catching a few other things as well; and the USA Basketball team isn’t taking any chances.

36CB024E00000578-3720299-Teammate_Matthew_Dellavedova_also_shared_a_photo_of_he_and_Ryan_-a-35_1470167020522We’ve all seen the images. Golden State Warrior Andrew Bogut making his own shower curtain and Mathew Dellavedova looking like he is in a remake of School Days. The conditions of the living quarters for athletes competing in the Summer Olympics leave a lot to be desired especially considering that these athletes are top tier performers with paychecks to match.

However, somebody didn’t get the memo in Rio and the Athletes Village has become something of a joke and Team USA will clearly have no parts of it. Kyrie Irving, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant and other USA athletes won’t be roughing it while in Rio.  Instead they will be living in the lap of luxury with a spa, shops and 7ft beds aboard the Silversea Silver Cloud.

One official said they would have been pestered for autographs and selfies in the athletes’ village. But two NBA stars (granted they’re playing for Australia) are in the village sleeping on single beds. The boat is in the Bay of Rio where construction work is still not complete but the Ship is more than ready.

The NBA’s finest will arrive for the Rio Olympics today to take up residence in this luxury cruise ship. And although construction isn’t finished ,  the luxury cruise ship is a far cry from the humble digs their fellow NBA baller Andrew Bogut, from Australia, is staying in.

Bogut, who plays for the Dallas Mavericks and was named Australia’s richest sport star last year with earnings of $16 million, posted a photo of himself putting together his own shower curtain at the athletes’ village in Rio and has a mosquito net over his bed.

Meanwhile, the cruise ship will afford the NBA men and women players  not only luxury and comfort but the type of security that they would expect and will be closed off to the public.

The only entrance is through an airport style scanner which is manned by Port Maua staff, backed up by security guards. On the water, police circle the ship on gun boats with marksmen equipped with automatic rifles.

And if that wasn’t enough, Team USAs Olympic ship is surrounded by a bullet proof glass fence and 250 federal police officers are on alert keeping a watchful eye. ‘Nobody can get near the boat without invitation’ said one security official.

{Video} King James And The Cavs Finish Off The Hawks With 100-99 Win

(SL) –  The inevitable happened Sunday in Atlanta.  Lebron James and the Cavs finished sweeping the Atlanta Hawks and will now prepare for the Eastern Conference Finals.  Kevin Love led all scorers with 27 points and 13 rebounds.  He had 8 of Cleveland’s 16 3s. Post Game presser with Love,  James (21 pts 10 rebounds 9 assists) and Kyrie who had 21 pts and 8 assists.

Cavs Takeover 4th Qtr To Beat Hawks 121-108

(SL) – The Atlanta Hawks gave it all they had in Game 3 against the Cleveland Cavaliers.  At the half they led 63-55 and was shooting almost 60 percent from the perimeter. At one point Cleveland was down by 11 to which J.R Smith says the feeling was to, “Keep our composure.

At times like that in the past we’ve had bad body language and allowed teams to gout there and do whatever they wanted to do.  But tonight we played extremely well. The way Channing played was unbelievable.  Everybody played extremely well.”

Kevin Love and Lebron James plot their next move.

Channing Frye came off the bench to lead all scorers with 27 pts. Cavs Coach Tyronn Lue says, “Channing’s an excellent three-point shooter.  I thought the lineup of Kevin and Channing really gave them problems because it opened up the floor for Kyrie and LeBron to get the basket and if their bigs helped, Kevin and Channing would be wide open for shots. Channing did a great job of taking the shots and we want him to be aggressive taking the shots and he made them tonight.”

Channing Frye had 27 points for the night.  Here he guards Atlanta’s Al Horford who led the Hawks with 24 points.

Channing would prove to be a problem for the Hawks, scoring 7 of Cleveland’s 3s (21). When it was all said and done Atlanta would lose by 13 (121-108).  A disappointing loss indeed and that frustration surely took its toll, as displayed when Jeff Teague forcefully pushed/fouled Lebron James causing him to fall into some of the crowd.

Post game James talked about that flagrant foul, their uncharacteristic play, hitting the restart button in the 4th quarter and I asked him about the possibility of returning to Miami for the Eastern Conference Finals.

Overall, James says they’re focused on Game 4 and that’s it.  It goes down Sunday at Philips Arena.  Tip-off is at 3:30pm.

Hawks Fight To The End In 110-108 OT Loss Against Cavs

(SL) –  It was a good one and a preview of what we can expect for the playoffs! I think everyone is ready for the 2nd season and The Atlanta Hawks and Cleveland Cavaliers gave us a peek at what we can look forward to Friday night at Philips Arena. Where do I start? The Hawks got off to a strong start but by the

end of the 1st quarter, Atlanta was reminded why the Cavs are the top team in the East. Somewhere between the 1st and 2nd quarter Cleveland managed to get ahead by 21 points, but by halftime the Hawks had cut that lead down to 14 with aggressive play by Paul Millsap and Jeff Teague.  As the 3rd quarter got underway, Paul Millsap continued to lead offensively and as they headed into the 4th the Cavs only led by 7.

Cleveland would lead by 11 in the 4th, but Atlanta fought back and forced their way into overtime. It would end with Al Horford missing a 3 at the buzzer. Paul Millsap scored a season high 29 points  12 rebounds (yes another double double) and Jeff Teague was pure Nacho with 28 points and 9 assists.Al Horford and Kyle Korver both chipped in 14 points. It was devastating loss indeed considering the Cavs pulled out the win only shooting 39.8%

from the field. Iman Shumpert said their defense came up big when they needed it. Defense along with Lebron James’ 29 points and 16 rebounds and 9 assists was a recipe for victory and landed King James at #11 on the NBA’s scoring list.  Kyrie Irving, despite all the drama involving his ex-girlfriend had a good game too scoring 20 points. Kyrie was only 5-23 from the field but made 5 of 6 free throws in the final 20 seconds of OT.

Lebron said, “I’ve never known him to miss a free throw in OT.”   Clutch indeed. Outside of a good game, halftime was pretty entertaining too with the King of The South,
