(AP) – The future of hip-hop is looking good and financially stable. Forbes magazine released the 2020 edition of their annual 30 Under 30 list Tuesday, which documents entertainers, athletes and more who’ve solidified themselves as entrepreneurs before the big 3-0.
This year’s edition includes Tyler, The Creator, DaBaby, Lil Nas X, Megan Thee Stallion and Tierra Whack. For his part, Tyler dropped Igor, a critically acclaimed LP that pushed his genre-bending-ways to new limits on its way to a Number One debut on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
Meanwhile, Lil Nas X pretty much conquered the world when his breakout single “Old Town Road” broke the Billboard Hot 100 chart record for most weeks at Number One. All five artists join the likes of Travis Scott, SZA, Young MA, and the Migos who have all been featured on the list in the past.
(Los Angeles, CA) – The man formerly known as The Rock is Hollywood’s biggest earner. Dwayne Johnson tops Forbes annual list of the world’s highest paid actors. The star of the “Fast and Furious” franchise made over 89-million-dollars for the year ending June 2019.
It comes from films, his HBO series “Ballers” and royalties from his line of clothing, shoes and headphones with Under Armour. He’s followed by two “Avengers” stars. Chris Hemsworth and Robert Downey, Junior made 76-million and 66-million-dollars respectively.
Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar was the fourth-biggest earner while martial artist turned actor Jackie Chan came in fifth on the Forbes list.
(SL-AP) – Scarlett Johansson is this year’s highest-paid actress, taking home 40-point-five million dollars. Forbes released its annual list today. The majority of Johansson’s earnings comes from her role as Black Widow in the Avengers films.
Angelina Jolie came in second place after making 28-million-dollars. She’s followed by Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Lawrence, Reese Witherspoon and Mila Kunis.
(Louisville, KY) – The founder of Papa John’s is explaining his use of a racial slur in a conference call. John Schnatter says he was conducting a training exercise when he admittedly used the N word as an example of how not to behave. Schnatter also claims his marketing agency tried to blackmail him for six-million-dollars before leaking the call, as reported by WLKY.
Several sports teams are cutting ties with the company over this recent scandal, meanwhile, executives at Papa John’s are working to re-brand the company’s image and advertisements without Schnatter’s face.
(Louisville, KY) – The founder of Papa John’s is resigning as Chairman after admitting to using racial slurs during a conference call. Forbes reported that John Schnatter made the offensive comments when asked on the call how he’d distance himself from racist groups online.
Schnatter released a statement today admitting the reports are true and apologized, saying “racism has no place in our society.” Schnatter earlier faced backlash for blaming the NFL player protests during the National Anthem for a downturn in sales.
(Tallahassee, FL) – A fifth Democrat is officially running for governor of Florida. Palm Beach billionaire Jeff Greene traveled to Tallahassee to file qualifying papers yesterday.
“Forbes” estimates Greene’s net worth at nearly four-billion dollars and he’s promising to “spend whatever’s needed to get the message out.” In a new TV ad, Greene says that, as governor, he’ll stand up to his Palm Beach neighbor, President Donald Trump.
(SL) – “Forbes” magazine says President Trump’s Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross is lying about being a billionaire. The 79-year-old has long appeared on the “Forbes” 400 list of America’s wealthiest.
His net worth last year was measured by the magazine at nearly three-billion dollars. But in a scathing report released today, the financial magazine says it intends on “removing him entirely.”
“Forbes” reports Ross’ financial disclosure forms filed after his nomination show he’s worth only 700-million dollars. “Forbes” editors wrote, “It seems clear that Ross lied to us, the latest in an apparent sequence of fibs, exaggerations, omissions, fabrications and whoppers” going back to 2004.
The secretary contends he’s created trusts for his family worth more than two-billion dollars that weren’t included in the cabinet disclosures. But “Forbes” reports that after more digging, it’s now confident “that money never existed.”
(SL) – Forbes has released its annual list of hip-hop cash kings and as usual Puff Daddy is at the top of the crop with Jay Z close behind. Sean Combs can thank his huge deal with Ciroc for the bulk of the $62 million he earned.
Jay Z, who continues to make a killing off of Roc Nation and his champagne and cognac businesses, took the #2 spot with $53.5 million.
Dr. Dre, who owned the top spot in 2014 after Apple purchased Beats and he took home $620 million sits comfortably at #3 pocketing $41 million over the past year.
The rest of the 10 looks like this:
4. Drake with $38.5 million
5. Wiz Khalifa at $24 million
6. Nicki Minaj, the only female to make the list, with $20.5 million
7. Pitbull – $20 million
8. Pharrell Williams with $19.5 million
9. Kendrick Lamar at $18.5 million
10. Birdman with $18 million.
