(New York, NY) – Some of the world’s biggest celebrities gathered for the annual Met Gala this evening in New York City. The theme for this year’s benefit is “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and Catholic Imagination”, attendees were asked to interpret through their attire.
Rihanna, Sarah Jessica Parker and Katy Perry are some of the celebrities who stood out at last night’s Met Gala. The annual fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City featured the theme, “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.” Rihanna arrived dressed as the pope, Parker had a nativity scene headpiece, and Perry wore six-foot angel wings.
Timothy Cardinal Dolan attended. According to an Archdiocese of New York spokesman, Cardinal Dolan will likely wear the cassock that he would don to any formal evening dinner.
Headpieces were the most common accessory of the night, with numerous stars showing up in crowns and halos. Among the men who stood out for their fashion choices were Michael B. Jordan, Shaun White, Chadwick Boseman and Jared Leto.
The night also included a proposal from rapper 2 Chainz to his longtime girlfriend.
(SL) – It was a who’s who at Serena Williams and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian’s nuptials in New Orleans. And there was no way Beyonce was going to miss her girl’s wedding.
A Beauty and the Beast theme, the Grammy award winning singer seemed to let her hair interpret the script.
Outside of the lengthy extensions, her curves were hugging the hell out of her Alexander Vauthier dress. Priced at $1530 dollars, the forest green-wrapped asymmetric dress was sexy even before we got to the thigh high split.
Beyonce was spotted sitting with bestie Kelly Rowland and her husband.
(SL) – Gigi Hadid was a sheek mix of the past and future walking the runway for designer Tom Ford as he kicked off NYFW.
The model looked stunning sporting a Twiggie style with Bridgette Bardot makeup paired with a full-length gown from Ford’s SS18 Women’s Collection Show.
Don’t worry Gigi didn’t give in to the popular big chop. She was photographed backstage with her long blonde locks being blown out before the show.
(SL) – I’m starting to think that agents are turning to police websites more than Instagram to find the next big thing :).
First Jeremy Meeks, whose mugshot launched a modeling career for the felon and now Mekhi Alante Lucky is proving to really be lucky after his prison photo went viral and caught the attention of St. Claire Modeling agency in New York.
Lucky, was arrested for speeding and driving a stolen vehicle, and he also faced charges of assault and breaking and entering. However, it’s being reported that he didn’t serve jail time.
What most find striking about Mekhi outside of his bone structure, are his eyes. He has a condition called heterochromia that causes one to have two different colored eyes.
The 20-year old is taking full advantage of the opportunity though, embracing his knew career and focused on making money.
(SL) – The luxury shoe and accessories maker said today it’s open to offers for the company. The British fashion retailer says the move is aimed at maximizing shareholder value and that majority shareholder JAB Luxury supports finding a buyer. The company says no one has come forward with offers to buy yet.
(SL) – Everyone deserves a second chance and as Jeremy Weeks told reporters this could be his fourth or eighth. Let’s just hope he does right by it this time.
With his body marked up like the subway in Harlem, Meeks’ tats are the only reminder of his past life of crime and gang activity.
Made ‘famous’ if you will from his mugshot that left most people mesmerized by his piercing blue eyes, Meeks was quickly nicknamed ‘Prison Bae’ or ‘Hot Felon’ and before he could be released, Jeremy had already signed with an agent.
Just 11 months after his release, Jeremy joined the modeling world’s elite for New York Fashion Week where he walked during the Philipp Plein Show.
I hope his doesn’t get caught up in ‘Hollywood’. Despite his criminal background, Meeks has 2 sons with his wife of 8 years. Stay on track Mr. Meeks!
(SL) – As reported by USA Today, The Liberian-born model-blogger banded together with photographer Raffael Dickreuter to launch “Black Mirror,” a project that recreates high-profile ad campaigns by brands including Chanel, Calvin Klein, Guess, Gucci, David Yurman, Louis Vuitton and Dolce & Gabbana to highlight the dearth of women of color represented in fashion and the media.
In an emailed statement to USA TODAY, Howard cites the 2016 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show as the most recent example of underrepresentation, noting, “you could see the same pattern you can see at New York Fashion Week or any other famous fashion event: Black girls are almost invisible. There is the odd one here and there, but it always feels like an afterthought.”
Or, a performance of diversity as opposed to actual inclusion.
For Howard, who says she’s been turned away by modeling agencies that “already have a black model,” the industry’s routine devaluation of women of color is “bizarre.” “What do you mean you already have 2-4 black models that looks (sic) like me?” Did you say the same thing to the 50-100 white models you already have?”
(SL) – Karen King has long been praised for her fashion sense and the reality star is finally sharing her vision with the world through a collection that is sure to stun even the most credentialed stylist or fashion critic.
Love and Hip-Hop Atlanta star Karen King hit the runway this past weekend with partner, fashion designer Linda Bezuidenhout to deliver an eye-popping collection that featured fabrics and prints from different parts of the world like Europe and the Far East.
Bezuidenhout picked each fabric according to the couture piece that she had in mind and it resulted in a gorgeous set of 60 pieces that would give any designer a run for their fashion in any given season. It was gorgeous. The duo premiered 40 pieces on the runway and the other 20 were exclusively released through their popup shop.
Some of Bezuidenhout’s favorite pieces included the sheer with 3D ensembles. The evening also included a performance by Karen King’s son, rapper Sas and guests were served delicious cuisine prepared by Chef Trey who specializes in Italian, French and Australian dishes.
