NYPD Will Pay Thabo Sefolosha $4 Million Dollars For Breaking His Leg

(SL) – Atlanta Hawks forward Thabo Sefolosha is settling his civil lawsuit against five New York City police officers following a violent arrest in April of 2015 that resulted with Thabo suffering from season ending injuries.

On April 7th, 2015, Thabo and former Hawks player Pero Antic were arrested outside of 1 OAK following an altercation that Sefolosha and Antic had nothing to do with it.

At the time, Sefolosha and teammate Pero Antic were waiting for a driver to pick them up. Sefolosha’s attorney, Alex Spiro argued that because Sefolosha was “a large black man wearing a hoodie” who happened to be standing nearby, police officers began to provoke him. Sefolosha and the officers then began to argue, during which time Sefolosha called a 5′ 6″ officer a “midget.” The argument would only escalate and officers arrested Sefolosha for obstructing the administration of government and resisting arrest.

Sefolosha faced three misdemeanor counts of disobeying orders to move from a crime scene and resisting arrest. He declined to plea bargain and was acquitted of all charges.

Sefolosha filed a civil suit in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York claiming the officers caused permanent physical injuries and damaged his reputation.

It’s being reported that he settled for $4 million dollars.  Antic also filed a civil lawsuit, and his case is still pending.

NBA Star Derrick Rose Hopes To Clear Name As $21 Million Civil Rape Trial Gets Underway

(SL) – I’m sure at this point NBA star Derrick Rose is wishing he’d pass on a night out that involved an old girlfriend and two friends. A night of risky sex that resulted in rape accusations and a now  $21 million lawsuit has put a blemish on the respected reputation of the former Chicago Bulls baller, but  before making his debut with the New York Knicks in Houston, Rose said he’s welcoming the chance to clear his name.

“I wanted to take it to court because I didn’t want to settle,’ Rose said on Tuesday, which was also his 28th birthday. ‘I don’t feel like I did anything wrong. If I go up there and just tell my side of the story, I think I’ll be alright.”1-1G61DdlmJo39E7jkyMbI8g.jpegRose planned to leave after the game to attend the trial in Los Angeles, where jury selection began earlier on Tuesday, though no jurors have been seated. He’s expected to be in court by Thursday along with his two co-defendants. The three are unhappy with potential jurors as only two of the 50 prospective jurors were African Americans. All three defendants are black.  Rose’s lawyer noted that 15 of the first 27 possible jurors were Hispanic, the ethnicity of the woman.

The woman, whose identity will be revealed when the trial starts, initiated the lawsuit after claims that Rose and two friends entered her apartment and had sex with her without her consent after she passed out following a night of drinking.
