(SL) – Here’s what $2.1 billion can do for you. In one of the most strategic and profitable purchases in fashion history, Michael Kors announced that Versace will now hold a spot under its House.
Michael Kors will expand under the new name Capri Holdings Limited but Donatella Versace, sister of Gianni Versace who created the line, says the label will continue to be a luxury label. She’ll also remain the house’s creative director.
The Versace family, including Donatella’s brother Santo and daughter Allegra, will also receive around $176 million USD worth of group stock in addition to the money they received for the sale.
According to reports in Bloomberg, Versace will aim to expand in areas such as accessories (which Idol hopes will make up 60% of the brand’s total business), its retail presence — including online and around 100 new stores — and the Asian market. Overall, the plan is to turn Versace into a $2 billion USD a year company, up from its forecast 2018 revenue of $850 billion USD.

(Kansas City, MO) – A final goodbye for New York City fashion designer, Kate Spade, will be held today. A funeral service for Spade is set for this afternoon in her hometown of Kansas City, Missouri at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Redemptorist Catholic Church.
The 55-year-old design icon took her own life at her Manhattan apartment on June 5th. She’s survived by her husband Andrew and their 13-year-old daughter Frances.
(New York, NY) — Kate Spade’s older sister says the designer’s depression went untreated for years. Reta Saffo told “The Kansas City Star” that Spade was “self-medicating with alcohol,” and resisted family efforts to get her into a hospital treatment program.
Saffo said the 55-year-old was concerned that such news would harm the “happy-go-lucky” Kate Spade brand. She said her sister was “fixated” on the 2014 suicide of comedian Robin Williams, who also took his own life by hanging. Spade’s housekeeper found the fashion mogul dead Tuesday in her Park Avenue Apartment bedroom, a scarf around her neck, hanging from a doorknob and suicide note by her side. Her husband and business partner Andrew Spade was apparently home when her body was discovered by a housekeeper.
According to a published report, the suicide note mentioned her daughter. The “New York Post” says Spade urged her 13-year-old child, Frances Beatrix Spade, not to blame herself for her death.
Other reports claim that she committed suicide because her husband was seeking a divorce. TMZ cites law enforcement sources who say Spade was despondent and did not want her 24-year marriage to end. The report says Kate and Andrew Spade had separated, and he was living in a nearby apartment.
Actor David Spade payed tribute to his late sister-in-law. The actor shared a photo on Instagram of the two of them together and said he still cannot believe she is gone. He also encouraged everyone to hang on in the “rough world.”
She started her fashion brand with his brother/her husband Andrew in 1994.
(SL) – The internet is perplexed with a pricey new shirt from French fashion house Balenciaga. The “T-shirt shirt” is really two shirts in one, a T-shirt with a button down shirt pinned onto the front of it.
The company says the shirt gives people “two wearing options,” but many people reacting online are confused by it. Anyone wishing to make a unique fashion statement will have to shell out 13-hundred-dollars for the “T-Shirt Shirt”.
In the past Balenciaga has sold some expensive oddities like two-thousand-dollar bags similar to those found at Ikea.

Rihanna, Sarah Jessica Parker and Katy Perry are some of the celebrities who stood out at last night’s Met Gala. The annual fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City featured the theme, “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.” Rihanna arrived dressed as the pope, Parker had a nativity scene headpiece, and Perry wore six-foot angel wings.
Timothy Cardinal Dolan attended. According to an Archdiocese of New York spokesman, Cardinal Dolan will likely wear the cassock that he would don to any formal evening dinner.

(SL) – Kanye West is accused of stealing shoe designs for his Yeezy brand. A former Nike designer named Tony Spackman is accusing West of ripping off a recent sketch he posted on Twitter showing how to properly design clothing for the human body to his own 2005 sketch.
Spackman posted a side-by-side of West’s and what he says is his own, which appears to be exactly the same. The one from 2005 was reportedly for a Nike collection now known as “Nike React.”
West has yet to respond to the claim, which comes in the middle of controversy over his recent controversial remarks about slavery.
