(Washington, DC-AP) — A young Guatemalan national is dead after being found unresponsive at a South Texas U.S. Border Patrol station. Customs and Border Protection says the 16-year-old was discovered dead yesterday during a welfare check in Weslaco.
The teen had been in U.S. custody for a week after being captured for illegal entry near Hidalgo. A cause of death has not been released. CBP says Congress and the Guatemalan government have been notified.
He is the 5th child to die in U.S. Custody since December.
