(Chicago, IL-AP) – “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett now faces 16 felony charges in connection with his alleged attack in late January. A grand jury in Chicago indicted him today. Smollett is accused of staging the attack on himself and filing a false police report about how he had been assaulted by people who called him homophobic and racial slurs.
A police investigation led to two men who claimed Smollett had paid them to do it. Chicago’s police superintendent accused the actor of using anger over racism to promote his career. Smollett was arrested last month for felony disorderly conduct and released on bond.
