(Washington, DC-AP) — Michael Cohen says he has made a lot of mistakes and has “owned up to them.” At the end of a long House hearing today, President Trump’s former personal lawyer and fixer said his blind loyalty to Trump has cost him deeply.
Cohen slammed Trump on a variety of fronts and said some of the President’s behavior is un-American. Ohio Republican Jim Jordan challenged Cohen’s credibility and noted that he is a convicted liar. But most think Mr. Jordan was the wrong person to question Cohen considering that he allegedly covered up a sexual abuse scandal involving wrestlers at Ohio State University.Cohen is headed to prison for lying to Congress, tax fraud, banking fraud and campaign finance violations.
Cohen repeatedly apologized for his past actions and said he previously lied to lawmakers to protect the President. Maryland Democrat Elijah Cummings said Cohen’s story is sad and was painful to hear. He also criticized Trump for calling Cohen a rat. Cummings said the U.S. is “better than this.” Cummings chairs the House Oversight Committee. Cohen worked for Trump for about 10 years.
