(Atlanta, Ga) – The arrest of rapper 21 Savage during Super Bowl Weekend made headlines all over the world. The Rapper who doesn’t have a criminal record was picked up by ICE and threatened with deportation for being an illegal immigrant in the U.S. but many are calling it an abuse of power and calling for the eradication of the U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
21 Savage, born Shéyaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, has been living in Atlanta Ga. since his family came over from England when he was 6. Now 26 and considered a dreamer, the government has been more than aware of his immigration status and his request for a new VISA that has been pending for a couple of years.
Nevertheless, he was picked up with no explanation by ICE…just the confirmation of “We’ve got Savage.”
Locked in a room by himself, while in custody 21 Savage missed his performance at the Grammys and most importantly was away from his three children, 2 sons and 1 daughter. Shéyaa’s children are U.S. citizens and he fears that there is a possibility that he may be deported. But even being a possible casualty of a system that rarely works as of late, 21 Savage didn’t condemn ICE but noted that the system is broken.
