MLK’s Daughter Says Meteorologist Who Used Racial Slur Shouldn’t Have Been Fired

(AP) – Martin Luther King Jr.’s daughter, Bernice King, says a meteorologist who allegedly used a racial slur during a news broadcast should not have been fired.

A man named Jeremy Kappell working for Rochester New York’s WHEC-TV was let go after he supposedly used the slur when talking about a park named after the late civil rights leader. Kappell apologized, and said he had just stumbled over his words.

Bernice King told TMZ that she thinks that when someone uses a racial slur only once, and not continuously, should be demoted and sent through training to ensure that they don’t just move to another TV station and use it again.
