(New York, NY) – An illegal immigrant who was detained for several weeks after delivering food to an Army base in Brooklyn is free. A federal judge ordered Pablo Villavicencio’s release.
The Ecuadorian native had disobeyed an order to leave the country in 2010. The judge said he’s been a model citizen, he’s supporting his family, and he pays his taxes. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo calls Villavicencio’s release “a victory for New Yorkers and for basic human rights.”
