(San Francisco, CA) — Twitter is cracking down on bots that spread false stories. The social media platform says that it will no longer allow users to post identical messages from multiple accounts. Twitter also said it will not allow people to use software to simultaneously like and retweet from multiple accounts.
U.S. authorities say Twitter bots disseminated propaganda before the 2016 elections and have continued to create political discord anonymously. On Friday, the office of Special Counsel Robert Mueller charged 13 Russians and three Russian companies, including a troll farm in St. Petersburg, with trying to disrupt the U.S. political system.
