Guam On Standby As Kim Jong Un Continues Threats And Trump’s Bellicosity Escalates Nuclear Tensions

(SL) – It was all good 10 months ago. Donald Trump hasn’t been in office a year but has managed to tweet the United States to the brink of Nuclear War with North Korea.

How likely is WW III? A general consensus is that Trump’s statements are just bluster, although many emphasize the fact that bluster has an unfortunate history of leading to war.

The new escalation is the latest in an ongoing ratcheting up of tensions between Pyongyang and Washington, and came after a report that claimed North Korea had developed nuclear weapons small enough that they could be flown all the way to the US mainland and detonated there.

Trump threatened Fire and Fury like no other if North Korea stepped to the U.S. or any of its allies, but then he refreshed his threat on twitter writing that the U.S. military is “locked and loaded” and ready to take action against the isolated country if it continues to “act unwisely.”

“Hopefully Kim Jong Un will find another path!” Trump said in provocative comments directed at the leader of a nation that, in open defiance of the United Nations, has been developing nuclear weapons capable of reaching the United States.

The Washington Post went on to report, as Trump continued his bellicose rhetoric — a tactic criticized by some U.S. leaders and allies — North Korea kept up its verbal salvos, as well. A commentary in a state-run newspaper said that the “U.S. military warmongers are running amok” and warned that “the U.S. and its vassal forces will dearly pay for the harshest sanctions and pressure and reckless military provocations.”

Trump claims that he is backed by everybody but that’s not true.  The Washington Post reports, German Chancellor Angela Merkel cautioned that “verbal escalation” may be the wrong response to the crisis.

As for Russia, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says, “We don’t accept a nuclear-powered North Korea,” in response to questions at a youth forum, but he added that the United States should take the first step away from conflict.

“I believe when it actually comes to a fight, the one that is stronger and smarter should take the first step away from the dangerous line,” Lavrov said.

An editorial in China’s state-run Global Times said that Beijing should “prevent” the United States and South Korea from carrying out an attack designed to overthrow the North Korean government but that China should “stay neutral” in the event of a North Korean attack and U.S. retaliation

The threats by Trump come as North Korea has stepped up its threats against the United States, including warning of a potential missile launch landing near the U.S. territory of Guam.

Guam

Later Friday morning, Trump retweeted images from the U.S. Pacific Command that showed two Air Force B-1B bombers that it said had joined counterparts from the South Korean and Japanese air forces in the region.

The command’s tweet included the hashtag #FightTonight, more of a signal of its readiness to fight if needed than a sign it is spoiling for a battle within days. The Air Force has kept bombers on Guam for years, and the Pentagon and U.S. Forces Korea have long used the “fight tonight” motto in South Korea to reflect the seriousness of their mission.

Why Guam?  The Independent sums it up best saying, It has been a significant military outpost for America since he Second World War and reportedly holds around 6,000 troops, the Anderson Air Force Base and the Naval Base Guam. The island is referred to by military commanders as their “permanent aircraft carrier”.guam-statista.jpg

The military bases have rotations of B-1, B-2 and B-52 strategic bombers, as seen in the above graphic, created for The Independent by statistics agency Statista, and include a submarine squadron.

It is also armed with a defense system that can intercept missiles, known as the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD).

(SL) -There were recent photos of Tiger Woods hanging out with Kristin Smith, the 34-year  old ex-wife of Dallas Cowboys safety Gerald Sensabaugh; but the golf icon says don’t believe the hype.  In fact those photos could possibly be old.

Tiger took to twitter to vehemently denied the report and says he and Kristin Smith are no longer dating. Furthermore, the 14-time major champion says the two haven’t dated since last year.

So maybe Woods wasn’t the boyfriend who gifted Smith with 200,000 cash when she  was questioned by authorities in about the loot in an airport earlier this year.

On a different note, Woods could see his DUI charges expunged after agreeing to enter a diversion program as part of his not guilty plea, stemming from his DUI arrest in May.

According to the AP, he is expected to enter the program on October 25th in order to have his charges dropped and keep him out of jail. He has not played golf competitively since withdrawing from the Omega Dubai Desert Classic after the opening round back in February.

NBA Baller Zach Randolph Gets Arrest After For Marijuana Possession With Intent To Sell After Signing 24-Million Dollar Contract

(Los Angeles, CA) –  ESPN reports The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department arrested Sacramento Kings forward Zach Randolph on a felony charge of marijuana possession with intent to sell.

Other accounts claim the arrest was part of a Wednesday night disturbance that resulted in damage to five Los Angeles Police Department vehicles and one sheriff’s vehicle.

Police recovered two guns, impounded two vehicles and seized narcotics, Los Angeles Police Department Officer Liliana Preciado told The Associated Press.

According to the police report, Randolph was arrested at 11 p.m. PT, booked at 4:23 a.m. and released Thursday morning as bail was set at $20,000. His next court date is scheduled for Aug. 31, according to sheriff’s department’s online records.

Randolph’s agent and attorney Raymond Brothers said Thursday that the charges are false and misleading and that they are looking at options to resolve the matter.

LAPD officials told ABC-7 that officers were on routine patrol when they encountered a group drinking alcohol, smoking marijuana and playing loud music while blocking a street at the Nickerson Gardens project in Watts. The officers then tried to disperse the crowd, and the disturbance escalated.

Officers called for backup when the crowd grew and people began throwing bottles. Several police cars ended up with smashed windows and slashed tires.

The 6-foot-9 free agent signed a two-year, $24 million deal with the Kings in July.

A friend of Randolph’s faced a marijuana rap in 2010 after Indianapolis police found him driving Randolph’s sport utility vehicle with a cooler containing marijuana in it. Randolph maintained he was not involved and he was never charged.

Atlanta Keeps Playoff Pace With Road Draw

(Kansas City, KS) – Atlanta United was trailing 1-0 in second half stoppage time with Western Conference leading Sporting Kansas City and things looked bleak for the Five Stripes but for the second consecutive game United was able to earn a point and get a 1-1 draw in Kansas City on Sunday after substitute Jacob Peterson was able win possession in the KC area and deposit a left footed shot past keeper Tim Melia to keep Atlanta in a tie for Fourth place in the Eastern Conference with NY Red bulls.
Michael Parkhurst’s timely cross and Brandon Vasquez’s ability to win the first ball were key for United’s last minute heroics.  The draw keeps Atlanta in prime playoff position with several home matches, in September scheduled for the new Mercedes Benz Stadium, in their favor.
KC had taken the lead 1-0 on a penalty kick conversion from Benny Feilhaber in the 59th minute. Leandro Gonzales-Pirez’s clumsy challenge of winger Latif Blessing in the area gave KC the chance. Atlanta was missing defender Greg Graza who dislocated his shoulder in the All-Star game against Real Madrid on Wednesday.  The overall performance was not Atlanta’s best and was uneven in some spots.
Atlanta travels to the nation’s capital on August 23rd to face DC United for the third time this season. Atlanta has lost both meetings so far this year. With 35 points United would need to hold home field advantage in September to secure one of the six eastern conference spots.
