(SL) – A new video of Philando Catstile’s death has been released from the view of the police car dashcam.
Castile supporters were left stunned by the not guilty verdict of Jeronimo Yanez, the officer who took all of 74 seconds to take the young man’s life. Castile was traveling with his girlfriend and her daughter when they were pulled over because the brake lights were out.
Yanez then asks Castile for his driver’s license and insurance.
Castile hands over the cards and says, “Sir, I do have to tell you I do have a firearm on me.” Yanez calmly responds, “Okay. Don’t reach for it then.” His voice rises suddenly and he yells, “Don’t pull it out. Don’t pull it out.”
Seven shots were fired into the vehicle. Five hit Castile and all while Castile’s girlfriend Diamond Reynolds and her daughter were in the car. Dashcam video also shows the young girl running out of the car and into the arms of another police officer who was also in the line of fire when Yanez unloaded and stepped out of the way.
Castile’s gun was registered. Castile was a cafeteria supervisor at J.J. Hill Montessori Magnet School in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
