(SL) – One look at First Lady Michelle Obama’s Cobalt blue silk crepe, with cap sleeves, a flared skirt and a neat waist dress and you instantly thought she intently stuck with the patriotic theme of the DNC. But there’s so much more to Michelle’s dress than its color. The dress was made by fourth season Project Runway winner Christian Siriano who has made a name for himself on the New York City Fashion scene. He’s also the designer that stepped up to dress Leslie Jones, the late-40-something six-foot-tall star of the movie remake “Ghostbusters,” after she complained that no designer wanted to dress her for the premiere. Siriano came forward and made a custom off-the-shoulder red gown for her premiere. In reference to the Leslie Jones situation, Siriano said, “I just don’t think anyone should be excluded from having a beautiful dress.”
Happenstance…maybe? But I believe the First Lady was putting some ‘respek’ on Siriano’s name for the professional and sweet Jones gesture. You see, that was only the second time Mrs. Obama wore a Siriano dress. The first time came earlier this month at the funeral for the police officers killed in Dallas. With that being said, The First Lady is known for supporting new and independent American designers especially when the background threads more than just the fabric.
