(SL) – The Atlanta Hawks snapped that 2 game skid against Brooklyn beating the Nets 114-86. It was a good one inside Philips Arena as the Nets tried to pick the Hawks apart but after a strong second half, Atlanta surged and grabbed the victory. A much needed win indeed after losing back to back games against two Eastern teams.
Going into the half, Atlanta had an 8-point lead. But as the third qtr started the Nets went on a 9-2 run and tied the game 52-52. It didn’t last long though with Dennis Schroder leading a drive that ultimately shut down the Nets for the night.
Schroder came off the bench to have one of his best game this season grabbing a double double (15pts and 10 assists, 6 rebounds and 3 steals) and moving the ball around in a manner that opened up a lot of scoring for Atlanta. Justin Holiday was the only Hawk who didn’t score.
Tim Hardaway Jr, helped dismantle Brooklyn as well as he seems to have taken that time in the D-league to fill in the gaps. He contributed a strong 8pts and was 4 of 5 from the field. Coach Bud said, ” Since Tim has gotten to play the last three or four or five games, hes’ been very good. “
Coach Bud continued saying, “Overall, I’m pleased with the work put in to get here. He’s reaping the benefits of that now. His activity defensively, his effort to get through screens and all those things have been good. He’s just letting it come to him on offense.”
As usual Paul Millsap led the way with 21. Atlanta is halfway through the season. Before the Hawks hit the West, they’ll play Orlando at home on Monday.
